Aha - I've discovered the cause of the "problem" with power out on the
high end of 160m. In trying to figure out why the wide variation over
only 100 kHz, I went back and measured power starting at 1800 and
walking up the band in 20 kHz steps until I got to 1900. Since the
tuning chart in the manual (page 2-7) shows initial settings of 8.5 and
8 (load, tune) for 1800 and 1,1 for 1900, I expected the cap settings to
move as I increased frequency. They barely did, and I got full 600W
output across the entire 100 kHz. Just out of curiousity, I used 1,1 as
initial settings. Indeed, there is a minor peak at those settings (1,
1.5 on mine), but only very low power can be made available. It appears
this "problem" doesn't exist unless you use the 1900 kHz settings in the
manual. Recommend TT change this item on the chart! This should be
good news to you, Bob.
