The ham band only receiver has some definite advantages:

1. There's generally better front end selectivity so megawatt SW BC
stations (except those on 7 MHz) are rejected better.

2. There can be narrower coverage if synthesized, or an PTO if not
synthesized, to give lower phase noise which helps the blocking
performance.

3. At least in Tentecs, ham band only receivers use crystal oscillators
for the band selection and so also have far lower phase noise than any
synthesized local oscillator. Lower phase noise improves dynamic range.

The general coverage receiver for ham use sacrifices phase noise and
thus dynamic range and front end selectivity to get the general
coverage. Which makes them more susceptible to intermod from BC and SW
stations and local hams.

I'd rather hear weak signals next to locals than SW BC stations. I can
arrange to hear SW BC stations with far less expense and compromise.
