You can cope with most things if you have a single lever, or if you can
psych yourself up to treat it as a single lever. But doing it in a DX
pile-up at 25 wpm is another matter.
In fact if you have a hacksaw blade and a couple of contacts, one each
side, you do not even need a keyer. But its going to take a lot of
practice; years ago I worked right through a field day contest as very
occasional back-up for an old timer who was using just a hacksaw blade
side swiper.
It looked effortless ... but that was the only half decent key available
and it sure cut down on the number of volunteers to take a turn. In fact
I was in a minority of one ... But it was fun trying ... and thats the
name of the game.
Start with a hand key, hacksaw blade, or one lever paddle, get to 15
wpm, get two levers and a fancy keyer and work up to 25 wpm, then get
a keyboard and learn to type at 60 wpm ...
As long as the guys at the far end can read it, and its still FUN, who
cares ?? Take your pick and enjoy.
