The Kachina uses DSP phasing to generate the SSB transmit signal. The
transmit passband is 100 Hz to 4000 Hz. The receive passband on SSB is
3500 Hz, with DSP filters; on AM it is 6000 Hz. I think Sherrill has the
right idea.

You CAN equip some conventional rigs - such as the KW 950 series - with 6
KHz transmit and receive filters, but they are the exception. That is
what many of the 20-meter "hi fi" group on 14,178 are running. together
with a few K-bucks of commercial audio processing gear up front after a
$$$ studio mic. 

Most rigs with factory filters are good for about 2000-2500 Hz at best,
usually with a restricted low end. They can and do sound good and do very
well within their design limitations.
