[TenTec] 544 Troubleshooting Help

My 544 seems to have gone south (tired of all the rain up here I guess).  
Out of the blue, the frequency displayed on 20-10 is around 9000Khz and on 
80-40 around 1000Khz.  There is a loud chuffing noise at about 5 "puffs" per 
second.  I can still receive stations on the selected band underneath the 
chuffing sound.

Though maybe someone else had been here before, so would really appreciate 
any advice on troubleshooting.  I do have an oscilloscope.  BTW, swapping 
power supplies had no effect.
