I checked into the TT users net to report happy progress on my new tower and
beam, when i discovered that my frequency readout was not where i would be
heard by anyone on the net. as i spoke the readout was scanning downward,
changing frequency with every voice peak. the xcvr stopped scanning when i
stopped talking.
I had the centurion on and so i put it in stby and tried it with just the
xcvr. I found that it would only do this if the amp was on line. I ran out
and tightened all my coax connectors and tried to think of what could be
happening. By the time i sat down and looked over the equipment i noticed
that my 301 remote tuning knob was sitting on the rotor control. The tuning
device in the remote knob was picking up rf off the rotor control only when
the amp was on and when i moved the remote knob, it didnt happen. in fact i
set the knob atop the amp itself and there was no problem. i checked back
into the net and was relieved
that this riddle was solved. i find the omni vI plus/centurion combo which
incidentally are stacked one on the other, a fb station. i also use the 229
tuner with them when im on one of my wire antennas.
What other rig has a remote tuning knob, so that i can tune the bands while
lying on the couch adjoining my station? This feature
emphasises the extra class i feel having made ham radio my choice as a hobby
and Ten Tec my choice of rig. de ben k8dit
