Sorry for missing the beginning of this thread, but I just read it.
Long time thread readers may remember my difficulty in solving a distorted
(rf) ssb audio problem on 17/12 meters with my Omni 6 two years ago. I
tried everything. I cornered the market in ferrite; I enhanced the rf
ground to the radio, etc. Only thing that seemed to help was putting my 238
tuner between the Omni 6 and Centurion. Changing the interconnect length
also modified the symptoms. These were misleading clues - the problem was
really in the internal ground wiring of the Omni 6 but I didn't know it yet.
Then after six months of beating my head against the wall, I finally spoke
with a different person at the factory, who recognized it quickly. Earlier
Omni 6's need an update that I believe separates the grounds in a couple of
circuits. I don't profess to know much more than that. But I sent the rig
to the factory and it came back with no trace of the formerly severe
problems.
