Hi Kevin,  Your instincts are true. Radios like to be used alot. They don't
like long periods of inactivity. Chances are with use the PTO will recover
from its languishing state. But you have described the first sign of PTO
fatigue. Rapidly and smoothly turning the VFO several times from end to end
will go a long way to rejuvinate the mechanism and the chirps will go away.
Leaving the radio on for awhile will chase away nefarious entities
attempting residence in your electronic toys. Contact cleaner or deoxit can
in non PTO applications make repair geniuses of those of us brave enough to
judiciously search and destroy other intermittent or non operational
components problems. Older radios get older everyday unless they are on and
being enjoyed by someone in need of their magical qualities. de ben K8DIT
