[TenTec] Omni 6+ with a Zipper?? Help!!

Hello All,

Being new to Ten Tec gear I have a major problem that plagues my beautiful Omni 
6+.
When tuning the VFO primarily on the bands 18 Mhz and higher I have a 
unmodulated
zipper sound, strongest on 10 mtrs. I tried with and without an antenna attached
and ground, no ground......no change.
The S meter on 10 meters jumps to S-5 when the VFO is adjusted, S-1 at a steady
state??, Unusable on 10 meters.
This is a 1998 vintage that had upgrades done 6/1/01 at Ten Tec. Any suggestions
would be Greatly apprieciated here.........Fantastic Radio tho!
