I wish to thank all those who have been reporting on the Jupiter firmware. I
will be upgrading over the weekend. I should comment that I earn my living
testing software and have found a good source of Quality Assurance for
software products is the end user, the customer!

They will, with little or no cost to the producer, give the software a
thorough going over. The customer is very selective and will generally only
complain about deficiencies (bugs or how something operates) when it is
really important to them. The software developer will use the customer as a
means of grading "how well did we do our job?" The only defects they need to
fix are the ones the customer really complains about.

The customer can even be useful in the beta phase of the software
development. By keeping the customer's expectations sufficiently low the
developers can ship software (or firmware, all the same to the end user)
that fails to do many of the things it should and the customer will never
really complain. Eventually the code will reach a point where development
and bug fixes are no longer required and the customer is happy because they
have set their standards to meet the capabilities of what they purchased.

Sounds like a "win - win" situation to me!

Cheers,

Bill Ames
