You have stated it very succinctly; technology, like time, moves on. A
couple of sayings come to mind:

"In technology, there are but two degrees of freedom; forward and down.
There is no backwards."

"Die Alten sagen immer,
Die Zeiten werden schlimmer.
Die Zeiten sind wie immer,
Die Alten werden schlimmer."

(Trans: The old always say that the times are getting worse.
The times remain the same; the old are getting worse.")
