If a vote is really wanted, I vote for all the Ten Tec and Orion info to be
posted here. I personally think it would better serve all parties interested
in Ten Tec and Orion to find good information in one place. Tommy WD4K
Orion ROCKS in WPX!!

I am trying to put a value on a just about mint 540 and 252 power supply. I

While it's off topic let me add my opinion. I don't think that
it's due to having a Yahoo account. I think it's due to using an
email link to click on a site. Why do I think this? I have two
yahoo accounts, this one that I use only for list email's and
another that I use as my general email. The one that I use to
respond to others gets about 50 spams a day in the bulk box and
about 5 in the inbox. This one that I never use for anything but
to respond to a list request gets about 1 spam a day in the bulk
box and maybe 2 a month in the inbox. This one has been active
for close to two years and the other for around four years. Spam
on the regular email has doubled in the last month. Spam on this
one hasn't changed. If it was a yahoo problem I would expect to
see about the same on both.

Amoung the other issues previously reported, Is it possible to have the =
memories also save the BW and PBT settings? When saving a dx location =
in a memory and working with a BW of 300, it does not make sense for the =
memory recall to go return to the spot but change the BW to 3000.

Any luck on finding the root cause to the high pitched whine and the key =
clicks in the headphones? a padded adapter at 100 ohms is a poor =
temporary fix as the audio is greatly reduced. when working weak sigs =
and have to turn the AF gain up enough to copy, the clicks return.

Thanks

"The bigger issue is keys clicks
from the big signal because you can't do anything about that."

Hi Carl and all - You can reduce what sounds like key clicks (actually
artifacts of the DSP algorithm) by using the wonderful notch. The notch is
calibrated so you can put it where the big station is transmitting. Notch
width and center freq both adjustable. I looked at a "waterfall" spectrum
and saw the notch moving across the pass band to where I wanted it.

I operated some in the contest also. Wow what a receiver! I was able to
completely eliminate a 40 over 9 signal 600 hz away by using the 250 hz
roofing filter, DSP set to 100 Hz and the notch and copy with ease an S3
signal. No pumping of AGC or anything in the background. Just nice clean
single signal copy!

I was also able to completely eliminate an S8 to S9 signal 100 Hz away from
and S3 signal. Never been able to do that before. I was shocked when I tuned
down a few Hz and all of a sudden the other signal was there.

Never heard any IMD or any "junk" in the background on a clear frequency
with the band full of 30 and 40 over 9 signals.

Okay guys, this is the start. I have FOR SALE the 1210 and the 1208 =
Tentec transverters. They are as new and used very little. I used them =
with my K2 and the Omni VI OptIII a couple of times. Actually when =
aligning them. I never got much use out of them, I only have vertically =
polarized 2 meter antenna's and on 6 meters I put up a dipole.

Anyway, TenTec 1208 6 meter transverter shipped continental USA for =
$90.00

The TenTec 1210 2 meter transverter also shipped continental USA for =
$75.00

Postal money order preferred, but I will accept a personal check. =
Personal checks must clear before I ship the items. I will ship them =
via USPS/insured for the prices mentioned.

Thanks,
Mike - KC8WR

IF the rig has the noise blanker, the CW filter and has a crystal
calibrator, then in excellent condition it is perhaps worth $225. The 252
power supply is worth maybe $50 IF it has the OVP (over voltage protection
circuit). This assumes a motivated buyer. This is just my opinion and I
defer to people who have other opinions.

While we're posting opinions, here's mine:

Dividing Ten-Tec users into little sub-categories is like having many email
addresses. It is more of a bother than it is worth. The origin of the
problem seems to be people who want to be in charge of something -- the 'big
dog' so to speak. If I'm not being clear, I think it is a bad idea and I
don't like it.

Going to bite the bullet, I see and Orion on the horizon!

FS. Omni VI OptIII w/PS 962 $1650.00
It is now equipped with the Optional 1.9kHZ SSB filter. No other =
optional filters.

If you do not want the PS 962 $1475.00

The cosmetic appearance of the Omni is a 8.5 - 9 and I am being very =
critical here. It has a couple of scratches on the top of the front =
panel. You know the silver painted part of the front panel. I see no =
other scratches or imperfections. The PS 962 is as new. I have all of =
the paperwork from TenTec service for the Option III upgrade and one =
service repair invoice that was performed at the same time. Of course =
the original manual is included. Operationally, there are no problems =
with the radio, it works just as TenTec specifies.

The only thing missing is the original shipping carton from TenTec. It =
got wet in the storage building and looks pretty sad. I'm going to call =
Stan on Tuesday and get a new carton and packing. That way everything =
will fit properly.

Also, the price does not include shipping or insurance, which I will =
split with the purchaser. The only way I can ship these 2 items is via =
FedEx Express. That's what we use where I work. Or possibly the Postal =
Service. I DO NOT use UPS. They have damaged or lost enough of my =
packages!

Payment by US Postal Money Order is preferred, but I will accept a =
personal check if it is from someone on this reflector. Shipment after =
the check clears. Anyone else, Postal Money Order Only.

If interested, please email me direct at kc8wr@bright.net

Thanks,
Mike - KC8WR

Aloha,

I am the present "group owner" of the Orion yahoo
list. There are now 514 members of that list.

Only this month, May, did the number of postings exceed 100.

Many but not all of the postings also appeared
on the "regular" TT reflector on contesting.com. Given
the comments the past few days, I am about to delete
the "exclusive" Orion list on Yahoo. Why? I also believe
it is now better to have all comments about Ten Tec gear
(including the Orion now that many of have the rig) be on
a single Ten Tec list, the one on contesting.com.

However,  might be fair to ask for a vote,  or at least comments;
in particular from the 514 now subscribed to the yahoo list.
Not interested in someone else picking up the "moderator's"
job; only interested in valid reasons to continue a separate
list for the Orion.

So valid and useful reasons for a separate Orion list, please.

73, Jim KH7M

Thank you all for your suggestions. They confirm that my problem is not
pilot error by me. I've checked everything I could think of to no avail.
Next I checked the accessory input to see if I could get TX output that way
and it works fine. BTW I checked my log and I never used this radio SSB
before.

Again thanks for all your help,

Hi Jim,

Thanks for asking. My vote is to go ahead and kill the yahoo.com Orion
reflector. I am a member of both reflectors and would prefer just the
tentec@contesting.com reflector. I have an Orion on Order - was just
making sure I was hearding the discussion.

Hi,

Just for fun, worked the "new" E. Timor entity this morning,
4W2DN. He was split, he on 14180, listening up.

So, after figuring the button use (did not use the N4PY
software, as just downloaded a new version of that
just before hearing the 4W) and set up for split, got
him after a few calls. He was asking for "stateside",
so figuring that Hawaii is one of the states, it was
ok for me to call, hi. He did come back to my call
eventually, and he was denying QSO's with a few
Europeans who were also calling. Was a huge gang
from the US mainland calling over several kHz of band.
Were not many "cops" on his frequency for a change
but there were a few who did call on his freq; just happens
sometimes you get the wrong VFO.

Anyway, still having fun with the Orion, and very pleased
to read of the reports about the rig's performance in the WPX.
I just did not have any strong signals out here to "play"
with to deterring close spaced strong/weak signal pairs.
Interesting that the 250 Hz roof filter did not seem to
enhance the performance, at least as reported.
