Well, thank you Bill.
If owners of Jupiter's and Orion's would get their ohm meters out and check
their rigs as suggested in an earlier email they will find, on the Jupiter
approx. 4 ohms of resistance from pin# 2 on the mic plug to the ground lug on
the
rear of the rig and on the Orion you will find approx. 6 ohms of resistance.
Anything that's not absolutely at ground potential will look like a conductor
to RF.....and that's a fact.
If your not experiencing any issues with RFI or more than desirable receiver
noise......then don't worry about it.
But for those folks that are having problems.......you need to take a look at
your stuff.
And contrary to the suggestion that your antenna should be 100' away from
your shack is not true. You can put your antenna on top of your house and put
out
legal limt without any indication of RFI if your station system is properly
grounded.
A good place to start is at your electrical service entrance, the place where
the main panel ground is attached to a grounding rod.......when was the last
time anyone went out, disconnected the large ground wire......sanded the
grounding rod and cleaned the ground wire......then reattach it and made water
tight. Oh yeah, be careful, it has been my experience that some thoughtless
home
owner or less than a journeyman electrician may have crossed the black wire and
white wire during new or old construction of the electrical system. When you
take the ground wire off make sure you don't use you hand, use a pair of
lineman's or something.....get you volt meter and measure from the ground wire
to
the grounding rod for any trace of voltage......if its clean....no
problem......if its not clean.....you got a problem and you'll have to got
through the
entire electrical system until you find that one little wiring error. It
happens.
