Subject: [TenTec] Hamfest Prize Question

Hi Scott,

This is kind of unofficial at the moment, but I wanted to sound you out on
this before proceeding further.

I've been talking with some of my club's officers about the prizes we're
going to be offering at our hamfest in February, and how best to spend the
prize money that's been allocated. At present, the hamfest committee has
budgeted about $1000 that they want to spend on three main prizes. They'd
really like to make the main prize an attractive HF radio within that
budget but still have some decent 2nd & 3rd prizes.

Of course, TenTec came to mind, in large part due to your excellent
reputation (no, really, I'm not just buttering you up!), in large part
because it's been a long time since anyone (except TT itself, or super big
shows like Dayton) has featured a TT rig as a hamfest main prize.
Specifically, we were thinking of the Argonaut V. But the retail cost of
the radio is a concern because it wouldn't leave much left in the budget
for anything else.

Is there any way that we could get or work out a small discount on the
radio to make it affordable for the budget?

One thing to consider, right now we mail about 1000 flyers to active
amateurs in WPA and surrounding areas. We don't just fold up the flyers
and stick a stamp on them, but put them in envelopes -- less chance for
the USPS to destroy them that way. So one possibility would be, in
exchange for a discount, would be to also place a TenTec ad or two in the
envelopes with the flyers -- extra advertising in addition to whatever
promos we put on the flyers themselves.

What do you think? And if there is a possibility of doing this, who do we
approach formally and how do we go about it?

Thanks again, and hope to see you at Dayton in May!
