Recently I purchased a demo, model 565 Orion. Serial number 07C10473.
If anyone recognizes this number please drop me an email as I would
like to know why it was returned. UPS busted the box but, thank
goodness, missed the transceiver. Initially I was disappointed in the
way noise popped up between normal speech pauses in ssb reception.
Then on removing the antenna I found excessive thermal noise. However
after a long land line with a very knowledgeable ham, thanks Kirby, I
found that the Threshold had to be set high on ssb. I have to set it
at 191.48 on 75 to kill the noise background. My question is: Is this
normal or has this Orion got a pain in it's innards ?
