nah - ain't that dumb. Just using software and software development tools
like we used old parts from TV sets - building blocks. No matter what
anyone says, I believe most competent 'amateurs' can learn to program, and
that programming and software development tools are not unlike those
building blocks of old. Some of us homebrewed back then - just a different
approach. You still need the basics - in this case the chassis is a bit
more complicated - an SDR to start with, but with enought flexibility to
change things.

The Jupiter and the Orion aren't there yet ... there's not enough of the
specifications that are visible to most of us do anything much with
(although Carl has certainly done a lot with his packages), but at some
point in the future, I hope that TenTec will indeed make a lot of the
software spec's and perhaps some of their software libraries for the Jupiter
and the Orion available for us to 'experiment'. In the meantime, I plan to
invest in the basics of the FlexRadio to do just that. Not for everyone,
for sure, but could be a lot of fun, and perhaps we can start providing to
really providing to the Amateur world what that great group of programmers
in the Linux world have done for open source operating and applications
systems.

Just some thoughts!

Dave
