Tom & Mike,
I'm a new owner of the ORION and have experienced several minor anomalies
but nothing like you have described Mike. The idea that your MULTI knob
went inoperative and will not work after a reset would cause me to send the
radio in for repair.

The "bugs" I have had include:
* Sweep display not operating when the radio starts up in 40 meters
* Losing signal detection in the Main Receiver while using both receivers to
listen to CW stations. Noise is produced in the Main receiver but detection
is lost. This problem usually occurs after changing from SSB to LCW on the
Sub Receiver and other activities including using the sweep display.
* Losing the side tone in CW and not showing output power on transmit in CW.
This has only occurred once.
* Some "dead spots" when reducing or increasing the BW

While all of these things have occurred, they do not occur with great
regularity, except for the "dead sweep" on startup in 40 meters. All of
these anomalies correct with a "switch off and on" restart. I have
adjusted my operating practices to avoid shutting the radio down while in 40
meters, and not changing the mode on the SUB receiver while using dual
receive operation on the same VFO, and making another "click" with the BW
knob when a "dead spot" occurs, saves me from a switch off and on procedure.
<grin>

I have had the DSP IO failure notice one time, but I had tuned the radio
into a grounded switch port. So I concluded that if that was the only error
for this abuse, I should consider myself fortunate.

All in all I have concluded that the merits of the ORION justify keeping the
radio in spite of the demerits. I am confident that over time the "bugs"
will be overcome by the software engineer, and the radio will progressively
improve. I use an IC 756 PRO II as my other radio, and given the ORION is
the one I'm always using, I know that it is the one to own. I'm not "bad
mouthing" the ICOM because it is a fine rig, but I do prefer the receiver on
the ORION.

I've had this ORION since June 23, 2005, and it has been on at least 8 hours
a day since that time and used extensively daily. I really like this radio.
It would be interesting to have the "commented" source code and a compiler
for the software, so I could change things for myself. Bet I could really
hose this rig up. HI
Ron

I am a new owner too, bought mine used and never saw anything like that.
looks like something broke inside. to do the master reset, did you hold
the
"main rx/tx ant 1 button and turn on the power, hold it for 5 seconds or
more
, I did that then said git rid of everything as it asked the other
questions.

also try a master reset, upload the current software, and master reset
again.

good luck, if that don't do it , I would call TT and see about them fixing
what broke.
