I can still remember walking out of the FCC's Pittsburgh-area test session
at the Holiday House in Monroeville, over 20 years ago, thrilled that I had
upgraded to General, and having a half-dozen people wave a Bash book for
Advanced under my nose, laughing and claiming that if I had only bought and
memorized the book, I'd have walked out with the Advanced instead.
Maybe that would have happened, maybe not. But I decided to learn the
theory the "hard" way, rather than memorize test answers. That worked for
me -- to each their own.
