Just to ad a little of my experimentaion and observance...

Maybe the distortion we are hearing is the noise, not the signal being
distorted?

When I listen to the OII with NR on what I hear that is most upsetting ( and
different from Orion 1.371) is the actual noise sounds. Kind of hard to
explain, but the best way I can describe it is: The noise seems to have a
static
like sound along with the atmospheric noises ( Yeh, I know it is static to
begin
with, but this is different). And it has a kind of clicking along with it.
Also with 1.371 the weak signal came up some with NR on. There were many times
I
could copy weak signals with NR on, that I could not copy with it off. Now I
just leave it off as it does not do all that much to help with weak signals,
to my ears anyway.

1.371 DID NOT have this.

Also, as others have noted here the NR works a lot better with stronger
signals. Once you try to use it with weak signals ( That is when we need it,
right!) it falls apart.

Another way I would describe it is with the new NR (V2) when the filter is
built around the signal, it does not get rid of the noise on the edges, it just
changes it, distorts it or whatever it is doing.

Does this make sense to anyone else?

Lee
