...and assume when something doesn't seem to work, that it is due to  
operator error.  It is 99% of the time.
Just run thru the checklist--

Antennas properly chosen?
VFO's properly assigned?
Audio assigned to right channel?
Proper Main or Sub VFO chosen for changes you are trying to make
Menus properly configured--e.g., TX, tuner, keying loops on or off?
and so on.

And you may want to join other lists or groups as well for help.
