18 Amperes would be a reasonable current draw for a (12 V DC powered)
rig in CW mode during key down, producing near full 100 watt output. In
SSB mode the current draw peaks should reach that same level, but for
such a short duration the hum associated with high current load on the
power supply should be barely noticable if any. What happens with mic
gain and RF output level pots turned all the way down (unfamiliar with
Corsair, I'm only guessing it has both controls as my Ten-Tec rigs do) ,
during PTT activation? If there is power supply hum in that case I would
say there is a problem. How about RF output measurement with mic gain
all the way down? Should be zero, unless balanced modulator is not balanced.
