Hi Doc,

This may be more than you're thinking of, but here's a thought...

A few years ago, I decided that I wanted a single station speaker for the
different rigs on my desk. At the time, there were some boatanchors which
each had their own external speaker. If you've ever seen some of those
speaker encolosures (e.g. hallicrafters), they're far bigger than most of
today's rigs, and I just didn't have room for them all. So I started
looking for an audio mixer; something that would allow me to combine the
audio of several different receivers, and direct the audio signal to a
single station speaker.

I couldn't find exactly what I had in mind, so I went to Plan B: design and
build my own audio mixer/amplifier. As I was in the thinking phase for Plan
B, I bought an MFJ DSP filter to add some selectivity to those old rigs, and
some of the medium-old rigs that needed some help. I discovered that the
DSP unit that I bought had an audio amplifier in it, and all I had to do was
to build a Bud box with some resistive input pads to isolate the audio input
signals from each of the rigs and provide the proper termination impedance
for their audio outputs. These audio signals would then come out on a
single line that went into the DSP filter with built-in amplifier. That
solved both problems at once.

So I now have six audio inputs to my resistive termination/isolation box,
and a single audio output that goes to my MFJ-784 Tunable DSP Filter. I can
turn on any of six rigs, get amplified audio through the DSP filter, and I
have the DSP filtering capabiliity whenever I need it.

As I mentioned, this may be more than you're thinking of. But it was more
than I was thinking of when all I wanted was a simple audio amplifier - or
so I thought.
