I'm pretty sure the AGC in the Corsair II is derived from audio after
the detector, and so after all the crystal filters but before the audio
filter. So that has to be where the AGC pumping came from. A narrower
first IF filter would help but its only SSB bandwidth now, though the 9
Tentec or Inrad MHz CW filter will fit there. There is no roofing filter
as such in the Corsair, the main filter is right after the first mixer,
with auxiliary filters in the 2nd IF at 6.3 MHz just for narrowing with
the IF shift.
