Whenever I use the NR on my OII I find the setting of 5 to be a good
compromise between the raspy audio induced by the NR for weak signals and
the flawless performance the NR presents with strong signals. I've also
experimented with using the NR in conjunction with reduced settings of the
RF GAIN. With stronger signals, you can damn near wipe out ANY trace of
white noise/static crashes when these two controls are used together.

Subject: [TenTec] Orion NR / SSB settings

Hello, I was wondering if someone would share their settings for running the
Orion II noise reduction on SSB. I have tried several combinations, but it
seems if a signal is weaker than about S5, it always gets a little raspy,
and the weaker it is, the raspier it gets. I know the NR has been an issue
lately, and I'm wondering if I am not using it the right way, or if it is a
charachteristic of the current NR firmware. I've had a clearspeech DSP
speaker before, and that is the style of DSP i'm used to. Any info is
appreciated. 73, Todd - KT0DD
