I just have another comment on this subject.

I believe the 3-500Z has a 500 watt heat dissipation.  With good ventilation 
you can run the plates to a cherry red at key down, or AM operation.  If you do 
not see the plate glow that nice bright cherry red,  that tube is just loafing 
around, not putting out as much as it can.  However it will last a life time.
