With the Paragon II, the Omni VI Plus and now the Omni VII, I connect the
line in and line out on the back of the radio direct to the sound card.
There are no pads, no transformers, and no interface box. The sound card in
the computer provides for line in and line out signals. All adjustments are
handled by the Windows XP mixer via the MixW2 software. T/R switching is
handled by the VOX set to max gain and min delay. I am very pleased with
the IMD reports of -25 dB or better with the PSK-31 mode.

Transmitter is always adjusted for max or rated output thus RF Level is
always 100%. The level from the sound card along with the respective input
control on the radio is then adjusted to produce 30 to 35 watts of output
with PSK-31 data. For RTTY I use AFSK mode and adjust the soundcard or
respective input control on the radio for 50 watts output. No additional
cooling is used under these conditions. Speech processing is always OFF and
the levels are such that the ALC LED does not illuminate.

Now if you find it necessary to feed signals into a MIC input either on the
sound card or the radio, then some 20 to 30 dB of resistive attenuation is
most likely needed. This can be a simple L network consisting of a 10K ohm
series resistor with a 1K ohm resistor to ground. These can be mounted with
care inside the respective connectors. For these, 1/4 watt resistors are
very adequate. The 10K ohm resistor is always in series with the source
signal and the 1K ohm resistor is across the input.
