Sounds like a leaky transformer or insulatior or a bad ground lead on the
pole. I have heard of people fixing those problems by taking a 16-pound maul
and hammering the pole a few times. Call the power company back and mention
the FCC--in my experience the truck gets there sooner.

No, none of that here...

but all HF frequencies are useless!!

I called the power company, talked to a nice kid and "we'll get back  
with you."

Took a AM broadcast radio with me for a walk. If I get within 8 feet  
of the power pole feeding my home, the radio goes crazy with noise.
