Very useful info on setting up the XTAL OSC frequencies, thanks.
You have to unsolder the coil and the coil can to remove
it from the board, before you can push the slug out. That will be the
next thing I do, and when I get the slug out, I'll probably use the
trick my uncle taught me, which is to put a bit of dental floss inside
the coil form to make the slug a bit tighter.
I, too, managed to fracture a core and had to take out the coil. Be VERY
VERY careful getting the coil out. If I recall correctly, the very fine
windings go directly into the PCB pads rather than to pins on the coil
former. It'd be very easy to break one as you try to de-solder.
