I, too, managed to fracture a core and had to take out the coil. Be VERY 
VERY careful getting the coil out. If I recall correctly, the very fine 
windings go directly into the PCB pads rather than to pins on the coil 
former. It'd be very easy to break one as you try to de-solder.
