Mic gain is very sensitive and, if slightly above 8 o'clock , causes the transmitter to go into slow oscillation. Also, using an MFJ antenna tuner, it is impossible to get anywhere near a rational SWR on 20 meters. The antenna being a Buddipole set-up for 20 and regularly used with a 706 mk II G.
