| A sturdier way to plug in the experimental diodes is to solder them to a
segment of a DIP or SIP header that can plug into the socket segment
that gets mounted to the transverter board. Since this is in an RF
path, you want to have tight connections to avoid spurious mixing
products from diodes that don't fit the sockets if plugged in just by
their leads.
Knowing that Dan's Small Parts can supply replacement true PIN diodes, I
would just get some from them and replace the diodes just as they were
mounted, after reading that linked article about how bad the 1N4148
tests compared to true pin diodes.
