Hello All,
This is still OT. but the record needs to be set straight.
Much easier to pay a few extra cents and get the clamps that are 100%
stainless. Better yet, get aircraft grade, but they will cost you.
The UV component of sunlight causes fiberglass to degrade and expose the
glass fibers. Anything that protects the fiberglass from sunlight will
prevent the degradation.
There are two basic kinds of silicone sealer. One variety gives off
acidic acid as it cures. The acidic acid will accelerate corrosion of
connections. The other variety gives off ammonia as it cures and this
stuff is intended for use on electrical connections. If you read the
fine print on the packaging, it will caution you.

Yep, many brands of hose clamps have a plated
screw which fails before the SS part, of course.
Weird construction. I goop such clamp screws
with black sillycone sealer all around... do not leave
voids which will fill with water.
The raw fiberglass rods that insulate parts on some
Cushcraft will start to "hair off" without the same
sillycone treatment. Electrical tape, so often the
ham's "friend" is just not .... it shrinks and curls,
withdraws the end leaving a flag, or cracks.
Seal coax fittings with one wrap of electrical tape, NOT
pulled so tight, followed by a wrap of CoaxSeal, followed
by a loose wrap of electrical tape. The inner tape allows fast
and clean removal of the CoaxSeal, the CoaxSeal keeps the
water out, and the outer wrap protects the CoaxSeal from
being scraped off by accidental movement of the cable.
Do not use sillycone sealer directly on coax plugs because
the evaporation of the stuff often evaporates INSIDE itself,
making a nice acidic splash on ur plug. 73,

I've noticed that the clamp is SS all except the screw.
My 2 cents.

Lowes has been my source of SS hose clamps recently when I've had to
repair
ice storm damage on my Butternut HV-2.... also Deer damage and John Deere
lawn tractor damage.

one can find real and complete stainless steel hose clamps at auto parts
houses, sometimes at Home Depot and Lowe's too.

But not the ones with plated steel parts. They rust too much. 100%
stainless steel hose clamps do exist. McMaster-Carr and Heartland Agri-
Supply are two sources that I know of.
