Thanks for the input. The straight through cabling, or the program setup, does have issues. One program reads everything except mode correctly. So things are not working perfectly. I've yet to find one that set up intuitively, and most take quite a bit of head scratching and reading. I have a pet peive (sp?) about the on-line manual downloads. When I see one with over 100 pages, I just move on. I don't read very well on line, and find I need to print things out for better comprehension and future reference. Thats a lot of ink and paper.

I'm still looking at several programs, but just wanted to get some input and opinions and most importantly try to avoid the simple mistakes many of us make. Yes, It seems you are correct about the level converter being not necessary. I just wondered if there was something I was missing.
Thanks a bunch,
David

Hi everyone,
I'm a bit late to computer logging and have been experimenting with several programs. I made up a cable with a db25 on one end and a db9 on the other to attached to the computer. The TT manual does outline the necessary wiring (there is one error that TT made in the manual, but I've fixed that). The manual also states that you need a level converter to use the mini plug serial connection. I have been having trouble setting up the various programs to read the Omni VI(its an option 3). Some I've set up as an Icom 735 and others do have the Omni VI in their menus.

Just wondered if straight through cabling (db25 to db9) is the preferred option? (I just want to read the transciever with minimal rig control)

This works perfectly. Why buy a level converter that you really have no
use for.

And the second question, is what programs seem to work the best with the Omni VI? There are a ton of them out there !

Depends on where you interests are. Digital-Contesting-or just everday
logging.

Personally I use fldigi.

All comments appreciated.

Thanks,
David
