a serial to USB is still connecting the Orion to the computer. It does use a
com port A Ten Tec Model 712 USB soundcard digital mode adapter
just makes an audio connecrion . you need both type of connections to run HRD
in the digatal modes and control the Orion

one can use a serial to USB adapter just fine for the Orion. no serial
port needed in my experience to read the rig or key the rig. i use a
serial to USB cable for either or both opertions. software is LOGic8 and
MixW2.
