There are no guarantees with line filters.  If you can borrow one from 
someone, you try it and if it works you install it permanently avoiding 
long leads that might cause filter blowby.

Is there a ham club near you?  How about at the college there?  They 
might have a filter in the junk boxes.

If you have an AC isolation transformer, or a tapped USA to Europe 
transformer, that you can run as 120 in and out AC volts, you could try 
that to see if it helps.  A good isolation transformer reduces noise 
about 20 dB depending on the frequency.  The problem may be Variable 
Speed Drives in the appliance, lots of modulated semiconductors 
controlling the motor for "Green" efficiency.  Oh, the laws of 
unintended consequences from the environmentalists!
