I used a Ten Tec Scout mobile in my 1997 Dodge truck from 1997 to about 2003
with a Texas Bugcatcher antenna. I stayed mostly on 17 meter phone, and I
had great success with it. My wife and I used to take 2- and 3-week road
trip vacation, and it was fun having the mobile radio there to help pass the
time during a long day of driving.

One caution, though. If you operate with the engine off (which I did a lot)
just be sure that the voltage doesn't drop much below 12 volts. The radio
doesn't like it one bit.
