They still are around and it comes with a power supply that looks nice on an
end table. The rig snaps in and out easily to bring mobile. And that I did
when MARS used to do CW on the 1700 nets. They are all solid state and not
very large either.
I know where they can be serviced and parts are still available.

Swap meets at ham fests can bring you a good bargain.  The older Ten Tec 
radios turn up there, and most Ten Tecs seem to be well taken care of.

Another solution might be tube era Heathkits.  The HW 101 was a classic 
and very serviceable new comers rig.  The later models also turn up at 
low prices, as most hams don't care for the heavier larger radios.
