Many ARRL handbooks in the past 20 or more years have included a high
pass filter designed to reject all the AM broadcast band. I built one
and it works well.

You are experiencing overload to the detector in the Century 21 from a
nearby BC station. I suggest you listen to the station ID and then look up
the frequency on the internet and then install a series inductor and
variable capacitor resonate at the offending stations frequency from the
center conductor of the coax to ground and tune the capacitor until the
unwanted signal is attenuated. You can connect this device by using a
T-connector the one port to the radio, one port to the antenna and the
remaining port connected to the series LC circuit between center conductor
and ground.
