At Mouser (www.mouser.com) and Digi-Key (www.digikey.com) you can buy
microprocessor crystals for less than 50 cents each. You just have to
buy a bunch and do your own matching which can take having a signal
generator, which is possible to build from one of the crystals and a few
parts and a frequency measuring scheme, like a counter. Details have
been published several times, including books from MFJ and the ARRL book
"Experimental Methods in RF Design"
http://www.arrl.org/shop/Experimental-Methods-in-RF-Design/ which
sometimes can be found at other stores for a better price.
