I'm dubious that this is a rx problem unless you have verified it some how with 
either a different rx, a different tx or (perhaps best) a spectrum analyzer. 
Whenever i have experienced what you describe with the Orion or Orion II rx, it 
has without fail been due to transmitted phase noise and not rx overload or 
internal rx phase noise. You simply will not be able to improve on the roofing 
filters unless you can figure out how to limit the bandwidth available at the 
rx input terminals, e.g., something like resonant cavities such as are used for 
repeater duplexers.
