In both situations, you need to know how each amp is keyed and what your 
radio does at it's keying output.  Many amps, including the Ten Tec and 
Elecraft amps that I have used, simply need a short on transmit at their 
keying input, and that short doesn't draw much current. Most rigs I've 
used provide that kind of keying output to an amp.  This is in addition 
to the delay issue.

All of these questions are usually answered in the manuals for the 
respective products. I don't know either of the radios you mentioned, so 
you'll have to do the poking to find them.
