OK... Let's agree to disagree. Lots of guys cuss,

The center
channel maximizes intelligibility NOT because of the type of loudspeaker
used, but because it is a SINGLE loudspeaker.
OK... but none of this does contradicts the
point of the article.
Let's be "Realistic" (...ouch... now there is a
awful pun ...) ;-)
The author's point is a center channel speaker
should sound good with a ham transceiver,
because it projects speech frequencies well.
We can argue about how or why that is, but that
is the point and nothing has been said to
contradict it. So, we agree, this type of
speaker lends itself well to the task.
More technical parameters are needed (and used) to describe loudspeakers
than you (and most of the high futility community) are aware of.
No... not really. I know about that, and
I recognize your expertise and superior
technical background... but all I need is a
pair of EARS and a little time on the air
to know if I like a speaker or not.
All hams do this -- eventually either they either
1) settle on something that sounds good enough,
and get back on the air, or 2) they obsess over
it and continue the Quest for the Holy Grail of ham
speakers, until they get tired of doing that, and
resort to 1) settle on something that sounds
good enough, and get back on the air.
BTW -- I'm a member of two AES Standards Committee Working
Groups on Loudspeakers. These working groups include most of engineers
who design professional loudspeakers, and many other leading engineers
who APPLY those loudspeakers.
Ah... yes. I was waiting for the credentials war
to begin.
I CRY UNCLE... I won't even try to pit my
experience in the world of audio against
yours - although I can say I did make some money
along the way testing audio products and writing
comparative reviews about them .. so at least
I got paid for my ignorance, while you get paid
for your expertise ! It all spends the same.

FWIW -- I suspect you would consider me a presumptuous fool if I argued
with an attorney about the law.

Lawyers like it when a client argues, especially
if the client disregards his advice, because it
costs much more to fix a problem than to avoid
it in the first place.
Besides, YOU and the rest of the citizenry are
expected to KNOW THE LAW and only lawyers
are allowed to plead intolerance of the law !

But, seriously, I know you have a good thick hide,
and know this is all in good humor and intended
to educate us on the list -- and it has been a darn
good discussion all around. That is why this group is
really special - Lots of hot opinions, but matters
never get out of hand and become a personal thing
like what happens on the QRZ.com and other forums.
