I'm looking at a PTO cleaning and we had a discussion on greases a few weeks ago. I was going to go with white lithium and someone said that it dries out. A couple of folks recommended teflon-based greases and one called Super Lube which he got at Home Depot.

I used to maintain computers for our local police department and discussed cleaning and lubing firearms with my customers. There are as many different ways and products used as there are cops. I think this may be the same deal...

I asked Garland Jenkins, a super-tech at Ten-Tec, what grease they used. "We just get it down at the Co-Op," he said. I suspect that others can advise you about grease that will survive better over time. I used Phil Woods bicycle grease once, but after several years it became a bit gummy. 73, Mike N4NT ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jim Goudie" <jagoudie@comcast.net> To: "Ten-Tec List" <tentec@contesting.com> Sent: Saturday, August 03, 2013 15:45 Subject: [TenTec] PTO lube shelf life...

Hello, Probably 10 years ago I purchased the PTO rebuild kit for my 544... but since the PTO continued to function, I never did the rebuild. It has been sitting on the shelf for a number of years now. The green lube is still in the plastic bag and still squishy (forgive the technical term). Should I get new lubricant or go with the "old" stuff? Am I likely to find good 'grease' locally, or should I just contact Ten Tec? Tnx & 73 Jim, AF3Z
