Terry, you are twisting my words.

I did not say all past tube rigs were better than today's rigs.
I only compared one of today's worst radios to yesteryear's cleanest radio -
which was 50 years ago - in order to show that not all of today's rigs are
better. I could add another half dozen radios, perhaps a dozen to the FT-450D
to show more examples.

You say nothing is stopping you from running any kind of nasty gear you choose.
Fine.

There is something stopping me: my conscience and respect for other hams on
the band.

BTW, I have not seen any comments on this topic from the Moderator.

 Rick,
My comments regarding old rigs were taken out of context, my thesis remains,
"Most any modern rig is cleaner than the rigs of old" Sure you may point to
some exceptions, perhaps some military grade Collins gear or something of the
sort, but those are extreme exceptions. Don't know what you tout as tube gear
or early transistor rigs which outperform some of the modern rigs but you
seemed to want to goad a discussion. Further commentary from me regarding the
use of old transmitters were related to FCC rules which allow growth to new
technology also allows use of old technology. Nothing prohibits me from
operating even the worse offending transmitter on the air. If I took a rig of
Marconi vintage rig and started operating it on today's bands do you really
contend that it would be clean as even a Yaesu FTDX 1200 or a Flex 5000? I
still stay I can any beloved Elecraft, TenTec, Icom, Yaesu, and any other rig I
may have missed and cause more havoc with an improper set Mic ga
in or Data (audio input) gain, Speech Processor (on SSB) and Amp than you ever
will ever see from Transmitter products with one of the offensive rigs you
name. I see exactly that every time I am on the air. Does it excuse the OEMs,
no, but as some of you have already done, speak with your pocket books. For
the big guy OEMs, they don't care that you are bashing Yaesu on a forum.
Regarding elecraft, probably works good but ergo sucks, size sucks, buttons
are like made for midgets or children, menu ops suck - other than that it
probably stimulates some of you. I'll stick with my Orion 1 and 2, the dirty
Flex 5000 and the even more offensive FTDX-1200. Has this topic about run it's
course, guess not, the moderator is participating.
N5TF,
Terry
