Shucks. Back to the Film Cutting Room...

<div>I didn't mean to imply I was looking for a Z-match. I just couldn't resist
the Z-match to
Z-Nation tie-in in this zombie pop-culture era.

<div><div> By the way, I have 3 tuners. My Dentron
Super Tuner Plus is the one I always say "I'll go to war with"
It's bullet-proof and will tune anything to anything.

Well, not quite.
They are not all Z-Matches.

The two Johnson Vikings and 4 of the 5 Anneckes are straight Link-Coupled
matchboxes, not Z-Matches. But there are plenty of Z-Matches there if
that's what you want.

It is a pity that we had so many models to choose from 40 years ago, yet
today there are none manufactured new anymore.

Especially here in Europe where the shortwave broadcast stations are so
loud, there was real tangible merit in using a link-coupled matchbox rather
than some alternative circuit. It not only is an efficient coupling system
with significant CMC blocking advantages, it also improves reception on the
receiver.

But that was yesterday, and yesterday's gone.

Stuart, it was more than one. Many more!

Indeed Harvey Wells in the states:
<a
href="<a
href="http://www.dj0ip.de/antenna-matchboxes/symmetrical-matchboxes/high-pow";
target="_blank">http://www.dj0ip.de/antenna-matchboxes/symmetrical-matchboxes/high-pow</a>
er-atu"
target="_blank"><a
href="http://www.dj0ip.de/antenna-matchboxes/symmetrical-matchboxe";
target="_blank">http://www.dj0ip.de/antenna-matchboxes/symmetrical-matchboxe</a>
s/high-power-atu</a>
-s/
And scroll down near the bottom, just above the Johnson Viking Matchbox.

And it was DECCA in England.
It is pictured just above the Harvey Wells on that same page.

There was also a lower power version which I still own.
It is found in the middle of this page:
<a
href="<a
href="http://www.dj0ip.de/antenna-matchboxes/symmetrical-matchboxes/low-powe";
target="_blank">http://www.dj0ip.de/antenna-matchboxes/symmetrical-matchboxes/low-powe</a>
r-atu-"
target="_blank"><a
href="http://www.dj0ip.de/antenna-matchboxes/symmetrical-matchboxe";
target="_blank">http://www.dj0ip.de/antenna-matchboxes/symmetrical-matchboxe</a>
s/low-power-atu-</a>
s/

And then there was of course Johnson Viking (also shown on both pages).

And finally there was WRL Globe (in Colorado):
WRL Globe Matcher SR AT-4
At the very bottom of the low-power page.

Similar, didn't make transceivers but did make Linear Amplifiers; "Linear
AMP UK" made a "Super Tuner" that was a Z-match. It was called LA-STWM, but
BE CAREFUL. They only made it for a couple of years in the 1990s, then
switched to a T-Network circuitry (i.e. Ultramatch) and continued calling it
the Super Tuner. If in doubt, simply open the box and look inside.

There were also a couple of companies who only made this type of matchbox
and didn't make transmitters or transceivers.

"SEM" on the Isle of Mann made a small 100w unit (just above the Globe), and

"ANTEC UT-1" (a us company) made a high power unit, shown on my high-power
page.

THE VERY BEST FOR LAST, (EVEN BETTER THAN JOHNSON VIKING):

"ANNECKE" (a German company)
It is represented several times on the high power page and there were two
low power units. I just noticed I've only uploaded one of the low power
ones. I need to upload the link-coupled 160m antenna coupler.

UNFORTUNATELY ALL OF THESE ARE LONG GONE!

Some radio handbooks have carried an all band Z match "tuner" for home
builders, that has two LC circuits and two links to do multi-band out of one
box.

Z match tuners used to be commercially available from one of the long gone
old line transmitter companies, but I am not sure if it was Harvey Wells, or
some other co.
