I agree; keep using a radio as long as it meets your needs. For that very reason, I kept the Corsair-II w/ ext VFO and PS all bought new as part of my station, even when I bought the Paragon for MARS work for Desert Storm (build up and until the units came back) and until the third time I sent it back and my XYL suggested I get a new OMNI-VI+. I ran the OMNI-VI+ ten years and three or four trips back to TT before selling it to a OT who wanted it bad enough to pay top dollar, making the purchase of the OMNI-VII with 300 and 500 Hz filters, and new speaker/PS much easier.

My Corsair-II w/ ext VFO and PS have not made a trip to TT, as I've made all the mods and repairs except for the display driver. I caused the problem, then bought the parts, and had a YL electronic repair specialist do the "fine" soldering work for me. I have the replacement ROM and board for the one unobtainium part so I may be using the Corsair-II as my last radio....

Noting that I'm somewhat of a Spartan/minimalist mentality as well as being a
tightwad, my approach would be "drive it 'til it dies" (i.e. is unrepairable
or not cost effective to fix) if you like it that much. There are several on
this list who are geared toward keeping rigs like yours in service.

I think I've come out better off in the long run with that approach: I have a
30+ year old automobile with 400K miles/650K km+ on it which has needed to be
towed only one time (due to an ignition lock mechanism failure) in over 100K
miles of my ownership. In the meantime, I've seen many newer vehicles sitting
on the side of the road, on the back of tow trucks, or in salvage yards
because they were deemed unrepairable. The same applies to my older Ten-Tec
ham gear, which is more repairable due to the option of retrofits and parts
substitutions than a lot of the newer stuff made with "unobtainium."

Just my $0.02 worth, YMMV....

I have a few contester-grade rigs, that are very well respected.
But none are as convenient, slick, and ...as enjoyable to operate QSK CW

Getting long in the tooth, I suppose it could crap out any day now.
If that were to happen....What TT would be a suitable replacement?

Sad, the analog 'S' meter is probably no longer in a new rig, but I
really like the lack of endless menu's of the Omni VI+.
Any suggestions??
