I have two Ten-Tec Centurion amplifiers for sale. Serial numbers
12A10069 and 12C10010. Both units are 9+ cosmetically and both
perform as they should. New RF Parts 3-500s in 2012-13 timeframe.
The amplifiers can be examined and demonstrated at my QTH in
Amarillo, TX. Both units are currently packed in original Ten-Tec
shipping boxes with original manuals. I can unpack and take photos
if you want but both units look like every other Centurion. Asking
$1,300 each picked up in Amarillo, TX. $1,350 delivered within 200
miles of Amarillo or $1,400 shipped / insured within the CONUS. As
previously stated, both amplifiers work and can be demonstrated at
my QTH however are sold on an as-is basis.

I've had two Centurions - an early one and a late one.? Both had

I had tried to post earlier in the week and the mail was rejected,
but I tried to re-subscribe and The Robot says I already am, so I
am trying again.
I had wanted to see if there was any real consensus (yet) on grease
to re-build a TT PTO (in a Century 21). I have searched the
Archives and see all sort of ideas...some of which are products I
cannot readily/at all get in Canada (such as Mobil 1 grease). Maybe
there IS a bicycle axle grease that does the job..dunno.. but I am
leaning toward white lithium grease. Comments?
A query to TT Service got a reply from them that the PTO re-build
kit is not available, so that is out.
I hope the PTOs I have here are not subjected to worn parts and
only have thickened and hardened grease, such that I can make them
work I have a number of TT radios that have landed here and really
should be moved on in working condx.
Otherwise I will have to seriously consider what I can do in the
way of a DDS or Arduino solution in place of PTO.
So the Century 21 I picked up at a hamfest last weekend will be the
first one I try to do without TT kit. Will see...then it will be
onward to the OMNI D and what else I feel must go to a new home.
Too bad we have lost the real good Legacy Care and parts but alas
time has marked on.

During SSCW I noticed (after a few hours of operating) the number 9
creeping in from the right side of the display. It never completely
became visible, but was definitely there and in large font. Later
on in the SS a third megahertz number appeared on top of the
regular megahertz numbers for each VFO. I could correct this easily
by turning the OII off and back on. I was using N1MM+ in SO2V mode.
Any thots on this or other similar experience? I have replaced the
A9 board caps last year. And the display is working fine today.

I had an Orion that had ?mystery letters? once. Sadly, I think the
CPU was bad? Hopefully, yours will not suffer the same calamity.
Before I jumped ship on that radio, should you see a recurrence, I?
d reload the firmware. Sometimes, if that is corrupted, the funky
letters only appear if you go though an unusual sequence of
keystrokes, which is why it can be some hard to find. Reloading the
firmware gets rid of those corrupt lines of code.

I have done 10 of these pTO rebuilds and have NEVER used a kit.
Just keep track of the parts.
If your brass shaft is too worn to operate (not likely) I can make
new ones.

I believe the Ten Tec kit used a red grease. It was a petroleum
product
as I recall.
However that is not important. What is, you want a grease that does
not
get hard over time and restores the lubricant properties without going
hard again.
One of the best universal greases I have used for substitute PTO
grease
is Dow Corning 44 Ball Bearing, high temperature, grease.
Clean out all traces of Red
grease or whatever it was, and repack the PTO with Dow 44 on gear and
moving surfaces that touch other moving surfaces.
OR, for a quick fix that should last the life of your interest in the
radio, is to remove excess hard grease, and spray Triflow onto the old
grease remaining to rejuvenate the lubrication and free up hard to
move
gear and worm parts. Tri Flo has microscopic Teflon ball bearings
which
increases its lubricating properties. A little goes a long way. I
think
I still have Tri Flo in a "trial size" that has done most of what I
needed over the years.
Do NOT try to use WD40!!! It is not an oil or lubricant, but a water
displacement chemical (water displacement formula 40), that attracts
dust and makes the problem worse if it is used.

I hope the PTOs I have here are not subjected to worn parts and
only have thickened and hardened grease, such that I can make
them work I have a number of TT radios that have landed here and
really should be moved on in working condx.
Otherwise I will have to seriously consider what I can do in
the way of a DDS or Arduino solution in place of PTO.
So the Century 21 I picked up at a hamfest last weekend will be
the first one I try to do without TT kit. Will see...then it
will be onward to the OMNI D and what else I feel must go to a
new home.
Too bad we have lost the real good Legacy Care and parts but
alas time has marked on.
