Sorry to be late sending this report but, thought to be interesting for
propagation enthusiasts. On the first evening of this year (2008) it was a very
good opening toward JA from my side. With my modest set-up (INV.L 15m-vertical
about 35m-horizontal TS450 with 100W) I never heard such JA pile-up on my CQ.
31 JA station were in the log but could be more without QRN...Again I see that
a quiet receiving antenna is necessary for "high quality" operation. Here you

Sorry to the sound quality but my laptop's sound card is not so good. Also,
there were a big QRN at that time, thanks to the INV. L antenna:) The fact is
that much of those signals were S9 to me. Was the first time when I hear JA
with S9 I couldn't believe to myself that this is possible...especially with an
INV.L. The "show" in the upper recording start at 20:29UTC and end at 22:48UTC
(JA's dawn). The whole "show" end at about 22:05UTC when the JA's dawn end.
Again, the "propagation enhancement" at dawn is confirmed. The problem is that
this is not the case all the time. Being QRV for two full weeks around the
winter holidays I notice that the good propagation is present for much more
time than we think but there are no hamradio QRV! Because of that, again, I
suggest that a beacon is the most adequate tool for one who want to study the
propagation's phenomenon.
