Please buy and READ the relevant standards for this subject before you
make assumptions. This thread has been on this reflector many, many
times. That standard is:
ANSI/TIA/EIA-222-F, June 1996, Structural Standards for Steel Antenna
Towers and Antenna Supporting Structures.
This document is available from Global Engineering Documents,
1-800-854-7179, for about $95 shipped FEDEX to you.
It is THE standard that answers your questions and should be on the book
shelf and read by anyone owning a tower. In fact, many counties require
PE stamping of drawings that state they meet this specification.
BTW, the "exploding tower base" was declared mythical last year.
All towers must be grounded per ANSI/TIA/EIA-222-F.
It is very educational book of approximately 114 pages.
