Tony, hold on a minute. A DC motor will turn in a direction solely   
determined
by the polarity
of the voltage applied. I had always been told, and taught, that the   
"start"
capacitor is
in place to cancel the inductive reactance of the motor windings.

Interesting message in all other regards. Let us in on the secret of   
using
only 4 wires.
